H.E. Dr. Abdul Salam Al-Majali is currently Chairman of the Islamic World Academy of Sciences. Previously, he held several renowned positions in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan including Minister of Health, Minister of Education, and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs. He presided over the Jordanian delegation to the peace negotiations in the Middle East in 1991, and in 1993 he became Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense.
Dr. Al-Majali has made many contributions to education domestically. He helped expand the University of Jordan and also participated in founding Princess Mona’s College for Nursing for the Jordanian Armed Forces. Moreover, he has participated in many WHO and UNESCO conferences and was subsequently awarded the Kingdom of Jordan’s highest insignia in recognition of his work, as well as the St. Jezebelle’s insignia from the King of Spain in 1994, and an insignia from the Queen of The Netherlands in the same year.
Dr. Al-Majali received his Master’s degree from the University of Damascus in 1949. He was awarded an honorary doctorate from Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey in 1974.
