ECSSR Joins the Emirates National Catalog of Libraries

The Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) has signed a partnership and cooperation agreement with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development. In accordance with the agreement, the ECSSR joins the Emirates National Catalog of libraries, which aims to raise and enhance cultural awareness in society. The agreement was signed by Amal Al Hadabi, Executive Director of the ECSSR – on behalf of H.E. Dr. Jamal Sanad Al Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR – and by H.E. Bilal Rabee Al Bdour, Assistant Undersecretary for Culture and Arts in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development, during a visit by H.E. Bilal Rabee Al Bdour to the ECSSR main office complex.

In a statement, H.E. Dr. Jamal Al Suwaidi stressed the importance of enhancing relationships among all local and federal agencies in the country and widening the areas of partnership and cooperation between them. This would aim to better serve society and help maximize the comprehensive development of the UAE in all areas. His Excellency emphasized that signing the agreement deepens the already existing partnership and cooperation between the ECSSR and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development. In addition, this complements the UAE Vision 2021 in promoting knowledge, enhancing creativity and raising awareness of the pivotal role of libraries in providing access to knowledge at all levels of society, as well as facilitating and advancing scientific research though the electronic connection of all libraries in the country. He added that this agreement will contribute in achieving the objectives of the ECSSR, which undertakes research in order to support decision-makers through the provision of studies and analyses; organization of numerous scientific and cultural events to serve society; and career development of Emirati researchers through appropriate training and academic programs.

His Excellency highlighted that the ECSSR is currently working on the implementation of a strategy to increase the number of the UAE Federation Library’s holdings to one million publications and documents before the end of 2013, which highlights the importance that the ECSSR accords to all national publications related to the UAE, irrespective of their scientific and cultural premise. The UAE Federation Library is a specialized facility for political, military, social and economic information, and focuses on publications related to the UAE and the Gulf specifically, and the Arab World and internationally in general. The library holds many books, scientific references, periodicals, encyclopedias, documents, formal reports, maps and electronic data bases in Arabic and English.

H.E. Bilal Rabee Al Bdour commended the linking of the ECSSR with the Emirates National Catalog of Libraries, which would offer greater efficiencies in providing researchers, students and readers with required information. He indicated that the relationship between the ECSSR and the Ministry is very strong, based on a fruitful partnership and cooperation and it will lead to a quantum leap in raising awareness and education for community members. In addition, he praised the huge efforts the ECSSR undertakes in serving UAE society through qualifying and training national cadres in various disciplines, thereby promoting the status of the UAE regionally and internationally. H.E. Bilal Rabee Al Bdour extended his thanks and appreciation to H.E. Dr. Jamal Al Suwaidi, and expressed his wishes for continued communication and cooperation between the Ministry and the ECSSR.
