DORRAT WATAN is an annual research competition launched in 2013 by the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR). The competition is aimed at encouraging studies related to historical, political, economic and social development of the UAE Federation and proposing outlook for the future.
According to His Excellency Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the ECSSR, the DORRAT WATAN is in line with the attention the ECSSR has given since its establishment – with the guidance and support of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and President of the ECSSR – toward supporting and promoting scientific research.
The competition has been designed to contribute toward achieving the development ambitions desired by our wise leadership in building a competitive knowledge-based economy. Such initiatives enhance the Arab and global body of work and leads to outstanding research and studies that define the unprecedented accomplishments made by the UAE at various levels.
The announcement of the DORRAT WATAN contest was made on the ECSSR website as well as on various media. According to the terms and conditions defined for the competition, research papers should be submitted by following the criteria recognized for scientific research in terms of methodology, documentation, and technique and in consonance with intellectual property rights.
It is stated that the research should add value to its area of specialization; it should not have previously received an award, formed part of an academic degree, dissertation or thesis, published in any book, periodical or website, or presented previously at any conference or symposium. The research should be written in Arabic to an acceptable linguistic standard while references used should be recent and documented in compliance with applicable rules. The word count should be between 12,000 and 15,000 words.
